Baby Essentials

My Little Child recommends these ESSENTIAL BABY PRODUCTS for your new baby...
- Blanky - Make sure you have at least TWO identical mini soft baby blankets for your new baby! Use both blankys regularly with your baby so s/he gets dependent on both of them and used to this particular type of blanky. The reason is you will use these to sooth and comfort your baby up through the toddler years, when trying to put the baby down or consoling the baby after a boo-boo, etc. This will become an ESSENTIAL and CRITICAL AID for you and your baby. Also, if you lose one blanky you will have a backup that your baby is used to and will not know the difference. If the baby goes to daycare then you will want one there and maybe two more at home. For goodness sake don't let someone custom make you ONE blanky. You will so regret this. If anyone buys you or makes you ONE blanky, make 'em buy or do another one! Blankys are much better way to comfort your baby than finger sucking or pacifiers!!!!!!
- Bassinet - This is really good to have when you bring your new baby home, because you can take it anywhere with you; on trips, around the house, etc. Most importantly you will want the baby with you in your room for the first month for easy feedings and a sense of security, but you must get your baby moved in to his or her own crib as quickly as possible or you will pay a horrible price! For your and your baby's sanity it is critical to get your baby to love his or her crib. There is nothing better as a parent than a little child that easily goes down because he or she loves their bed.
- Diaper Disposal System - To store SOILED diapers! YUCK!!!! We have used all kinds and they are still only good for storing pee diapers. We have to wrap our little child's toxic waste poopy diapers in a plastic bag and then throw them outside in the garbage bins. If you put them in the Diaper Genie eventually the baby's room and then the whole house will STINK! So gross!!!! We have yet to find a Diaper Genie that seals in the smell of poopy diapers. If you find one please emails us and let us know - info@mylittlechild.com. The best diaper genie we have found and use is the Diaper Dekor from Target for under $30. UPDATE: A customer sent us an email recomending the "Neat!" Diaper Disposal System by Safety 1st!
- Baby Wipes Warmer - This is an awesome baby product! A MUST HAVE! Believe me, babies freak-out when you put COLD wipes on their little bums! We recommend the Ultimate Wipes Warmer
by Prince Lionheart for under $25.
- Infant Carrier/Car Seat - We recommend the ones where there is a base unit that sits securely in your car and then the baby carrier easily pops in and out of it. Most baby carrier car seats can then snap on to most strollers for easy mobility.
- NOT AN ESSENTIAL , but a real nice-to-have, is a very cute trendy and comfy infant car seat cover that slips over the existing manufacturers cover.
- Baby Monitor - If you really NEED to get a wireless baby video monitor then we highly recommend the Baby's Quiet Sounds Color Video Baby Monitor by Summer Infant. If you don't NEED to get a wireless baby video monitor then we think you should buy the Angelcare Movement Sensor & Baby Monitor, which is designed to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). This is simply the best baby monitor on the market today! Once the baby gets a little older, around six months, then we recommend upgrading to a baby video monitor, the Summer Infant Baby's Quiet Sounds Video Baby Monitor.
- Lightweight Stroller - We highly recommend the Bumble Ride collection of lightweight fashionable strollers. If you are an avid jogger or are going to try to run/exercise with your baby, then nothing beats this baby jogging strollers from Dreamer Design.
- Crib - Get a nice but inexpensive easy to use crib. DON'T waste money on something too expensive. If you can buy a nice used one, we say go for it!
- NOT AN ESSENTIAL, but a crib toy that plays a cute lullaby can be very nice and entertaining for your little child...
- NOT AN ESSENTIAL, but a nice-to-have, is a diaper stacker that attaches to the crib or nursery door to keep diapers handy and organized.
- Changing Table - Find a good one that has lots of storage! Again don't waste too much money on one. We say if you can find a good USED crib and changing table - GO FOR IT!
- Glider- If you have the space a comfy rocking chair/glider or sofa chair is critical for the parent. You will spend a lot of time in it feeding the baby, putting the baby to sleep, staying up all night, etc. Whatever you decide to buy make sure it is very comfy for you.
- Baby Carriers - We think having one of these baby carriers is an essential baby purchase. Babies like to be close to mommy or daddy and these are so useful in so many ways - going to the grocery store, taking walks/hikes, simply walking around the house getting stuff done, etc. Find the right one for you that is EASY to use...
- Playmat with Gym - These are really cool and infants do seem to enjoy these infant playmats a lot!
- CD Player and Music - We highly recommend having this! When you put your baby down for sleep and naps, put on a classical CD or lullaby CD. This is an essential tool that stays with the baby into the toddler years. It makes putting down your baby so easy and relaxing for both of you (with their blanky, of course! ).
- Videos - Buy the FULL Baby Einstein collection! Just do it! This will keep your baby fascinated until the early toddler years! Then remove TV all together. :) This maybe one of the best essential baby products on the market today!
- Highchair - you can wait to get a highchair until your baby can easily sit up, but you will need one eventually. Find one that is aesthetically pleasing to you and EASY to clean! Most important that it be easy to get the baby in and out and also to clean or you will go through several highchairs...
- NOT ESSENTIAL - Infant Activity Toys. These look fun and are fun, but babies really do not need too many toys before they are six months old. Use your money wisely to buy the essential items first and let friends and family spoil your baby with these items.
We hope this helps and if you have any suggestions we missed please send us an email to info@mylittlechild.com.
